I was born on 25 November 1955 in Fertek village, Niğde. In 1966, I graduated from Cumhuriyet Primary School in Bor district, Niğde. In 1972, I graduated first in my class from Bor Şehit Nuri Pamir High School. In 1970, I won a scholarship from TÜBİTAK and studied at high school and university for nine years as a TÜBİTAK scholarship recipient. In 1972, I enrolled at Hacettepe Faculty of Medicine. I graduated as a medical doctor on 30 June 1979. On 15 August 1979, I passed the entrance exam for the Internal Medicine Residency Programme at Hacettepe University Faculty of Medicine and began my residency training. In October 1983, I became a specialist in Internal Medicine. Between December 1983 and April 1985, I completed my 16-month military service at the Headquarters of the Land Forces Command. Between April 1985 and September 1987, I served as an Internal Medicine Specialist at Sivrihisar State Hospital in Sivrihisar district of Eskişehir for 2.5 years as part of my mandatory service.
On 19 September 1987, I passed the cardiology specialisation exam at Hacettepe Faculty of Medicine and began my cardiology training. I became a cardiologist in December 1990. On 4 April 1991, I started working as an assistant professor at Ondokuzmayıs University in Samsun. On 18 June 1992, I performed the first balloon angioplasty (PTCA) procedure in the Black Sea region. In October 1993, I became an associate professor of cardiology. In 1994, I passed the ECFMG and TOEFL English language exams and obtained certification. In 1995, I went to the United States and conducted research with Dr. Ubeydullah Deligönül in Omaha, Nebraska, where I also received training in stent implantation. In the same year, I returned to my country and performed the first stent implantation in the Black Sea region in May 1995. I initiated the first dual-chamber pacemaker implantation in Samsun in 1992. In 1996, I became the first person to perform mitral balloon valvuloplasty and vena cava filter implantation in Samsun. In 1993, I received the European Cardiology Fellowship (Fellow of European Cardiology) and in 2004, the European Cardiologist diploma. In 2000, I was appointed as a professor of cardiology at Ondokuzmayıs University in Samsun. From 2000 to 2003, I served as the head of the Department of Cardiology.
On 19 September 2007, I was appointed as a professor at the Department of Cardiology at Marmara University. In 2017, I received a scholarship and went to Bad Oynhausen Hospital in Hannover, Germany, where I received training in CRT implantation and TAVI. On 25 November 2022, I retired after 43 years of public service. I have numerous publications in both national and international journals, as well as presentations at national and international conferences. I am proficient in English and French. I have a 31-year-old daughter who is a pharmacist and a 20-year-old son who is a pharmacy student. My wife worked as a pharmacist at Marmara University for the past 15 years and has since retired. I am the proud grandfather of a 3-year-old granddaughter.
